Team members from Tandem Senior Living Advisors and Holleran Consulting donned hard hats, and gloves, and spent a day in Gastonia, North Carolina, recently to help build two sheds that will become storage space for two new Habitat for Humanity homes as part of Dixon Village in Belmont, NC.

Mike Wallace, CEO of Tandem Senior Living Advisors, helped organize the day with Habitat for Humanity of Gaston County.

“We thought having our teams partner with Habitat and spend time bonding and helping two future Habitat families was an excellent way to spend a day while in town for a company meeting,” Wallace said.

Wallace, Tandem Senior Living Advisors’ President Hoppy Sell and CFO/COO Greg Sellers all live locally to Gaston County and have been involved with Habitat for many years.

Kay Peninger, Executive Director of Habitat of Gaston County, was on site during the shed building.

“We are so thrilled the teams from Tandem and Holleran joined us today. We could not provide the housing options that we do without the volunteer efforts just like these. It means the world to me, our Habitat team, and future residents,” Peninger said.

Habitat volunteer Gwin Hilton and friend to Tandem team members designed the sheds and supervised the build ensuring the two sheds would be ready for the next team to add siding, trim, and paint in the near future.

Wallace worked with Hilton on Friday and Saturday to get the sheeting on the roofs installed along with tar paper. To wrap things up, the gables will be closed in and shingles applied.  

Habitat will deliver the sheds to the Dixon Village site for placement during the construction of the homes.

“Our build day was fantastic! We were thrilled to help two future Habitat families,” Wallace added.
